They'll let you used "previously purchased" wands (we've gone several times because its only 1 hour from our home and they've never hesitated to let us use our previously purchased wands). The one thing you cannot avoid is paying to play.
I'd look for used costumes as well otherwise your kids will be pushing you hard to shell out another $60.00 a piece for outfits. We chose to buy one of the costumes and had it double for our son's Halloween costume. MagiQuest sells far, far more than wands and toppers. Buying a new topper is simply throwing money away. Buying a used wand with a topper is fine. They are plastic sculptures that screw onto the end of a wand. The "toppers" don't add any functionality to the wands.
Most of MagiQuest is designed to separate you from your money. I searched eBay for "MagQuest used" and the list was enormous. It uses wands and only wands and absolutely nothing else. Our kids are 10 and 7 and they thoroughly enjoyed running up and down the stairs trying to complete each quest. It was an easy way to keep our kids entertained, especially when pool attractions were shut down. They opened before and stayed open later than the pool. The nice part about this location, it's attached to the hotel so we never had to leave the property. It also included free ice cream, bulk candy, and arcade credits. This included 1 - MagiQuest game, 1 standard MagiQuest wand, topper, or belt.
We decided to go with the middle option (Red Paw Pass) for $45 per individual. During our check-in process, we noticed a display advertising "Paw Passes" for resort guests. We were staying at the Great Wolf Lodge for a spring break getaway.
